TASK 5

Hello everyone!

In this task you have to watch the episode again and try to identify the fillers and backchannels used by the characters. Post here the sentences where they appear and comment why they are used.

Example:
"Well, I'm living in this, er, attic at the moment,.."-> er is a filler and it shows that the speaker is thinking what to say or how to say it.

Reagards,

Sara

  1. Hi,
those are some of the filler I've found:

Rachel: well, well, may I just stay here (Emphatic)
Monika: Oh God, God, I am I am so sorry (surprise)
They mentioned a lot but they speak so fast that it's not easy to catch all of them.

  7. At the beginning of the chapter, when Ross arrive at coffee, Monika says a phrase (I didn´t understand it) and Phoebe, Chandler and Joey say "oh" --->(understanding)

Also, in that scene, Monika says "really?"--> (surprise)

Monika says again "really?" when she is at home, just before that her friend will arrive --> (surprise)

  13. Yes,it is. When we want to show that we are laughing in written discourse we must write hehe for "jeje" or haha for "jaja", etc.
